Twice I was part of the media team of Olympic Team Austria: at the Winter Games in Beijing in 2022 and at the Summer Games in Paris in 2024. My job is to be close when it counts. On the track, at the finish and in the minutes after, when a medal is still warm.

Hanging by one hand from a big blue hold, a climber in Austria's kit clenches his fist and screams with joy on the pale blue wall.

Paris 2024

Summer in Paris: sport climbing in front of a wall of fans, the time trial through the city, track cycling in the velodrome, beach volleyball in front of the Eiffel Tower. And then the welcome back home.

Smiling under an aero helmet, a cyclist in Austria's red and white kit rides a time trial bike past spectators lining a Paris street.
A track cyclist in Austria's red and white kit speeds low over the handlebars across the wooden velodrome, Olympic rings blurring behind.
A beach volleyball player in a red AUT jersey stands on the sand of an empty stadium, the Eiffel Tower and Olympic rings behind him.
A fan holds up a red-white-red flag in the foreground while, high above, a climber works up the pale blue Paris 2024 wall.
A climber with a blonde braid holds the rope at her harness, her face tight with emotion, seen past the blurred raised hands of fans.
Beaming, an athlete in a red and white team jacket holds her bronze medal up to the camera and high-fives, the Eiffel Tower behind her.
A fan in a floral dress and a Paris 2024 cap cheers open-mouthed at the camera, waving small red and white flags in the sunny stands.
A laughing woman covers her eyes with both hands, Olympic rings painted on her white nails and a tiny Eiffel Tower inked on one finger.
Athletes with medals kneel laughing in a hall, in front of cheering children and fans with gold balloons and red-white-red flags.
In the end.
It's the emotions.

Beijing 2022

My first Olympic Games, based in the Olympic Village in Zhangjiakou. Masks, sub-zero temperatures and very little sleep.
